PhotoFiltre系列图片软件被国外软件媒体给予过PhotoFiltre Studio“媲美Photoshop”的称号。《PhotoFiltre入驻portableapps.com》介绍过不支持图层的PhotoFiltre 6免费版。和PhotoFiltre Studio一样支持图层的PhotoFiltre 7其实也是免费的，只是不像PhotoFiltre 6一样在官网“显著”提供。

PhotoFiltre系列图片软件主要分为早期的PhotoFiltre和后期支持图层的PhotoFiltre Studio，前者免费，后者收费。两套软件界面极其相似，而且共用插件和扩展。
“媲美Photoshop”是有点“过分”，但是PhotoFiltre Studio只有11M左右的体积和默认10M的内存占用对于普通用户来说确实“小巧精悍”。

PhotoFiltre 7不是基于PhotoFiltre 6的升级版，而是PhotoFiltre Studio的简化版。
- 相对于PhotoFiltre 6，PhotoFiltre 7主要增加了图层支持（The Layers）和笔刷（Brushes）；
- 相对于PhotoFiltre Studio，PhotoFiltre 7精简了格式支持（Animated Gif、Vectorial Path、PhotoPNG、RAW Format、8BF Filters）和特效工具（Tool Nozzles、Tool Deform、Tool Retouch、Advaced and Inverse Eraser、Perspective correction、Horizon correction、Border effects for layers、Transparent gradient in Alpha Chanel）。
PhotoFiltre 7依然是免费的

同PhotoFiltre 6一样，PhotoFiltre 7依然是免费，授权限制为“私人的，非商业，或教育使用（包括非营利组织）”
PhotoFiltre 7是基于PhotoFiltre Studio，所以语言包需要使用PhotoFiltre Studio的语言包，不能使用PhotoFiltre 6的语言包。
PhotoFiltre官网有PhotoFiltre Studio和PhotoFiltre 6的独立网站页面，但是没有PhotoFiltre 7的独立页面。因此免费的PhotoFiltre 7没有免费的PhotoFiltre 6那么“著名”，当然PhotoFiltre 7的图层相对于Photoshop也精简的多。
按照一般逻辑，免费版主要针对普通用户，而普通用户使用图层操作的概率应该并不高吧。
